Local Organizing Updates
UPS Freight
January 2008, conference call with IBT concerning the start of organizing all UPS Freight workers under card recognition at each location. During the month literature was distributed to UPS Freight employees. This was completed by the rank file members of Local 957 working for ABF, Holland, Roadway and Yellow Freight companies.
February 2008, Conference call with IBT updating victories and obtained information on how to proceed with organizing in the Dayton area. Literature continued to be distributed by rank and file members. Contacts were made with UPS Freight employees building the internal organizing effort with updated flyers and notice of upcoming meeting.
March 2008, Meeting held at Local 957 Hall with UPS Freight employees. International organizers and Indianapolis UPS Freight members were in attendance to answer questions and concerns for the employees of UPS Freight in Dayton. At conclusion of meeting authorizations cards were distributed and returned to Local 957 Organizer Mike Maddy. Continued to distribute updated information to Dayton UPS Freight employees by the S.W.A.T. Team, other involved members and the Officers and Agents of Local 957. Held a second meeting at the Local to address questions and concerns of UPS Freight employees.
April 2008, Continued to distribute update information to UPS Freight employees by hand billing at the Dayton Location, by S.W.A.T. , involved members, and the Officers and Agents of Local 957. Authorization for Representation cards continued to be submitted by the employees of UPS Freight. On April 25th the Local reached the agreed percentage of signed cards which were forwarded to the IBT. These employees are now ready to begin the negotiation process that all members of Local 957 enjoy.
I would like to thank all members of S.W.A.T., all rank and file members that came out and helped on this organizing drive, also thanks to all the UPS Freight employees that worked together to make this possible.
